Aruljyothi Annalayam

Aruljyothi is an organization that donates food to the needy at various temple premises. In Chennai, the organization feeds people at 15 temples, offering 3 meals every day to a 100 people at each temple.

To make this feeding program possible, 7000 members and 5000 families donate 3 kilograms of rice and 250 grams of Toor Dal (lentils) every month.

The program's operations are managed by dedicated, loving volunteers.

Aruljyothi, run by Sathish Ayya, is a throwback to feeding programs that were started 180 years ago by Sri Vallalar Swamigal, and the movement aspires to revive this wonderful tradition.

Through direct canvassing and through their monthly magazine of the same name, Aruljyothi encourages people to celebrate their birthdays and anniversaries by feeding the poor, and is actively working to spread awareness among the public about the harsh reality of hunger among the poor in India, and the importance of the simple act of making a meal possible for them.
