The Vallalar New Life
Centre specializes in the treatment and care of those afflicted with leprosy.
Benefiting from the Center’s high quality medical facility and care,
patients tend to make a quick recovery. Thereafter, the Centre helps them
re-establish themselves in life by offering them vocational training through
computer courses, printing technology training etc.
In the meanwhile, children of leprosy patients receive help in continuing their education. Also, in the villages surrounding the centre, about 350 families of leprosy patients receive nutritious daily afternoon meals. On Sundays, underprivileged school students are served a wholesome midday meal. A remarkable feature of the Centre is that almost all its employees are recovered leprosy patients themselves.
Apart from their primary
focus, the Center has also played an active role in bringing relief to those
affected by the 2004 Tsunami. The Center was started by Mr. L. Natarajan with
a view to help patients who came to the local government hospital seeking
treatment for leprosy, and has now grown into a full-fledged, dedicated
leprosy care centre that is constantly expanding its reach.
