Commuter Welfare Society

This Chennai based society is founded on the thought that commuters ought to take greater interest into the transport facilities that they use daily, instead of waiting for the government to resolve their commuting problems.

The society's activities are as follows:

With the help of 17 women's self help groups, maintaining roads and spread awareness about roadmaintenance
Adding three additional bus services to the Manali bus terminus
Efforts to change the double-fare timing from 9 PM, to 10.30 PM and beyond
Success in receiving a bus route from the Chennai CMBT main bus terminus to Manali

Apart from such commuter-specific activities, the society is also involved in:

Running awareness campaigns about eye and blood donation
Helping improve the general knowledge of high school students through quizzes
Visiting orphanages and shelters for the homeless and offering whatever help is required
          Maintaining the Manali cemetery

Functioning under the leadership of Mr. Sridhar, a diploma holder in polytechnic studies, Manali Commuter Welfare Society is inspiring various urban groups to become more self-reliant in solving their daily commuting and other challenges.
