Vergal (Roots)

“Vergal” is an organization in Kanchipuram that works with children victimized by child-labour and helps them redeem their childhood.

Kanchipuram is famous for its silk, and several children end up too early in the weaving industry. Such children are rescued and offered schooling and special help to make up for lost school years. Alongside education, the children are also given personality development training.

In order to address a more fundamental problem, Roots fights hunger by offering free meals in poverty stricken communities, and works towards the education and empowerment of women, and also sponsors the education of children from poor families.

Roots is founded and run by Mrs. Nalini. In a country plagued by child labor, Roots helps anchor these children into a safe, secure childhood with the promise of a healthy future.
