Sankara Netralaya



Sankara Netralaya is one of India's best known hospitals for eye care, renowned both within and outside India for its excellent, low-cost care and clean, well-equipped premises. They are best known for:

-         free medical care to the poor
-         awareness campaigns about eye donation
-         Receiving between 600 and 700 pairs of donated eyes every year
-         a record 1041 eyes received from donors in 2004
-         Certified in 1997 by ISO as the best eye bank of the year

-        100 surgeries every day in 24 different locations, of which 40% are conducted free of cost

The eye bank at Sankara Netralaya matches international standards and is headed by Mr. Irungovel. The hospital was founded in 1978 by Dr. Badrinath, and is offering exemplary service to the poor who find eye care unaffordable.
