Gandhiji Welfare Group

Gandhiji Welfare Group of Kumbakonam is dedicated to bringing drop-outs from schools back into the educational system, training them in vocational skills and rendering them productive and employable.

The group runs a training institute that follows the rigor and method of regular schools, and the teachers working here are all dedicated volunteers. The program accepts even the most left behind children, some who have never been to school, and has had success stories of sending them to colleges.

As part of its curriculum the institute also inculcates social responsibility and ethics alongside character building and moral education.

K.Balasubramanian, the founder of this group, has an interesting story behind the group's conception. Having to abandon his studies after 10^th class, Balasubramanian had to work in a grocery store to help his family. Now, as the head of a group that helps children who suffer the same plight as he once had to, Balasubramanian has found time in his busy life to complete two Master's degrees.
