Although there are government
bodies that have a mandate of caring for the various needs of citizens, there
is often a distinct disconnect between such programs and their target group.
Citizen's Welfare Group works to bridge this gap between the public and
government welfare initiatives, and helps people find the aid they need.
The group plays an active role in
the following areas:
- Working with rural panchayats to bring government benefits to rural communities
- Offering assistance to the police to help fight against corruption, smuggling, illicit liquor and drug cartels, and crimes against women
- Creating awareness campaigns for various causes like environmental responsibility, AIDS awareness, etc
- Helping agriculturists with soil testing, procuring financial assistance from NABARD and other field analysis projects
- Disseminating information about agriculture and employment through printed media
- Guiding and channeling the energies of youngsters towards thought exchange forums and productive and socially responsible causes
Headed by Mr. Kasturi Rangan,
former editor of Thinamani, a Tamil daily, the Citizen's Welfare Co-operative
is being very well received in its field.
