Sukriti Foundation
works to empower those with mobility challenges. In the first year of their
existence, they provided 14 physically challenged persons with mobility
devices, facilitated eye surgery for 13 visually challenged patients, and
collected 93 units of donated blood. With the help of 200 college students,
they created awareness about the needs of the physically challenged among urban
commuters.
The foundation spearheaded
the building of a ramp-way to make the Vedanthangal bird sanctuary fully
accessible to the physically challenged. They are currently campaigning for
making new and large urban buildings handicap-friendly.
The driving force
behind the various activities of this foundation is Ms. Sowmya Simhan, a
farsighted individual who empathizes with the plight of the physically
challenged who, in our country, face restricted mobility in streets and public
buildings.
